Halloween in December

I know I’m really, really late, but I wanted to make sure I shared these before next Halloween!

This year, we had our friends, the Helvey’s, over to our house for Trick or Treating, some white chicken chili and hot chocolate. And it was down-right cold. So much so, I really contemplated not even going out, but I knew the kids would be crushed. We had to send our little Frozen gang out to join the parade of all the other Frozen kids roaming the streets. Literally, frozen.

Here’s Maya’s costumes each year. I love seeing how much she’s changed along the years! I still LOVE her first butterfly costume, it’s my fave. I also think of Maya in regards to her best friends. The first three years her bestie, Bella, was always by her side when they went trick or treating at our church’s Trunk or Treat they did (where all three of those were taken). Then the last two Halloweens, she’s been with her Indiana besties, Ava and Sophia. I guess Halloween also means sweet times with friends :).

I feel like I’ve dropped the ball a little bit with this guy. I look at each of these photos and I think of what I should’ve done differently each year. So I’ll say it, then I’ll be done and enjoy them for what they are :). His first Halloween, he was actually a monkey. He was so tiny and so sleepy and I was so focused on our busy little Bumble Bee that we didn’t even get him out of his carseat/stroller to take a photo. Just know, he was the cutest (sweatiest…it was hot) monkey there was. For the sake of photos, I dug up this photo of him trying to stay warm earlier that month (we were in Ohio). In 2013, I waited so long to buy a costume that I couldn’t find one when I went out the night before. Mom fail. I knew it was freezing, so I actually liked the idea of a warm hat and a Little Monster he was. This year it was so dang cold that by the time we had quickly shot the group photos, he was done. And we quickly bundled him in a coat and had to catch up with the gang. Next year is going to be my year for Noah, mark my words. 🙂

Bless his heart, why on earth did I not get the boy a pair of gloves? I’m still learning that Indiana Halloween’s are not the warm evenings that they were in Arizona. I’ve got to prepare a little better!!!

And check out Maya’s Elsa get-up. She insisted on those Elsa socks and the cheapy little plastic shoes. I knew she wouldn’t get far and at least prepared actual shoes to change into. She also has a full sweat suit under that costume, which still wasn’t warm enough.

The gang. My friend, Selena, is clearly a cold-weather-dressing mama all geared up. I don’t think I heard her kids complain once! The girls had like 94 layers under those dresses and Selena made the wigs and capes with the intention to keep them warm. Genius.

Our little family. This was the very first year that I’ve dressed up since ….uh, our first or second year of marriage when we dressed as matching vikings. I had a MOPS meeting earlier in the day that we were supposed to dress up for and I went as an “Oh deer.” Not gonna like, I kind of had a ton of fun doing crazy make-up like that. We’ll see what happens next year!

I got a fast-as-lightening shot of Maya by herself. It’s horrendous quality, but who cares, I got it :). That’s 1 out of 2 anyway.

Right before I snapped the above left shot, she said, “Mom, I just can’t take this anymore!!! What do we think we’re doing out here!” And then she walked a little further and was paralyzed with cold. She did whine a little, but ultimately pushed on a lot further than I thought she would. All for the candy.

It’s. So. Cold.

And Olaf finally decided to tackle a door himself. I think he only went up to one or two. He was much more interested in pulling the wagon and then getting warm.

Until next year! We’ll see what kind of Halloween Shenanigans we come up with then!
