The Burkhead Family // Woods in the City

This is one of those unexpected places that when I tell clients about, they respond with surprise as most of downtown Phoenix is a concrete jungle overlooking desert. It always makes me feel a little removed when I’m there. Then when I’m finished, I hop in my car and I’m back to reality in the city.

I look at these photos that were taken not all that long ago and can’t believe that I’m looking at short sleeves and bare arms. I think I’m still in climate shock over here in Indiana, but am really enjoying my layers. I’ll be back to visit just after Christmas, so it will bring a nice relief from the bitter cold.

Oh, I really like this family! We only met a year ago at our first shoot together, but I felt like I was meeting up with old friends. Nikki and her sweet family have such a warmth about them and, seriously, those kiddos are sweet as pie. This may sound cheesy (if you’ve read this blog long enough, you’ve probably figured out that I’m a pretty big cheese ball. You know, the kind that watches just about every sappy Lifetime movie as possible), but at one point I felt like I was literally capturing the love between them. Once the kids got comfortable, we let them do their thing and they could not have been sweeter. It’s a little bit of magic when that stuff happens.

I could’ve photographed her all day long. She’s beautiful.

There’s something about little kiddos mouths when they chew. I might be weird, but I think it’s the cutest thing. Until about another 2 years, then not so cute. 🙂
